Meet Our Qualified Mentors

Volunteer Mentor/Life coach

A Life coach is a caring, responsible, teenager/adult volunteer who serves as a trusted friend and guide to a student. She helps to ensure that the student develops important academic and life skills, is exposed to new opportunities and a wide array of resources, makes positive life choices, stays in school, and graduates with a plan for pursuing post-secondary education or work activities.

Introduction

TeenEsteem Program is a Life coaching/ Enrichment Program for "at risk" Middle School girls. It is an academic, social, and spiritual enrichment program designed to get "at risk" young girls to intentionally focus on their selected academic and career path. Selected participants will be paired with coaches who will provide leadership, guidance, and support. Participants will be selected through the Johnson & Mullings Social Services Scholarship Selecting Committee. See Scholarship Program guidelines at www.lifeshareministries.com.

Applicants

How do you become a participant in the TeenEsteem's life coaching/enrichment program?

Applicants will be selected after they have fully completed and submitted the scholarship application with accompanying requirements outlined on website www.lifeshareministries.com

Life Coaches

Life Coaches will be selected after successfully completing the application process. The function of this responsibility will be to assist selected students to complete the transition from middle to high school and to college. Life coaches will work with students on specific activities to enhance their academic and social wellbeing. This is outlined in TeenEsteem's toolkit.

Transition Plan

The transition plan will include monitoring the student's grades, social behavior, and overall performance. Each student is encouraged to participate in a study group program that will provide enrichment in academics, spiritual growth, and social development. Life coaches will assist students as they prepare for state tests such as ACT, SAT... Test scores will be recorded and tracked by the coach.

Life coaches will use the module below:

Module (Middle School/High School)

Students in grade levels 6-12 will be assisted by their mentors to review PSAT, SAT, ACT… results, and to gain a good understanding of strengths and weaknesses. Develop a plan to improve study habits by understanding how to better manage their time and schedule. Identify a group of their peers to form a study team that will enable them to focus more on the areas of weakness and create an improvement strategy to achieve higher grades. Life coaches will assist the students to maintain areas of strength and create an improvement strategy to take them to a higher level. Students should set a GPA level that is consistent with those of the higher achievers of their school, and nationwide. Encourage the student to create an environment that will enable them to perform at a high(er) achiever level.
